Cycling Without Age
Cycling Without Age is a movement that started in 2012 by Ole Kassow who wanted to help seniors with limited mobility get back on their bicycles. The program is lead by volunteers who "pilot "seniors on trishaw bicycles. As of February 2023 there are more than 3,050 chapter locations around the world with well over 4,900 trishaws—and the numbers are still growing. More than 39,000 trained pilots ensure that the elderly get out of their nursing homes, out on the bikes to enjoy the fresh air and the community around them. They give them the right to wind in their hair.
Our Story
While taking a weekly walk, Josh and Terri Schlabach fell in love with the then vacant lot on South Mulberry Street near the bike trail and discussed how nice it would be to have a local bike store. A few years later, they opened Wheelies on Mulberry as a multi-use space, housing a bike shop, outdoor recreational area, and locally run cafe modeled after bike cafes they saw on a family trip to Germany. The Schlabach’s vision is that locals, tourists, and seniors will be able to come with their bikes, or rent bikes there, for a nice time on the trail.
